John has worked in mental health services for over 20 years, having experience in the NHS, Civil Service and independent sector.

Previously Commissioning Director and Deputy Chief Executive of Pastoral Healthcare (a secure mental health provider), he has also commissioned all Specialist Mental Health Services for Wales and advised the Welsh Assembly Government on mental health policy.

His operational experience includes overseeing (as Responsible Individual) his Care Home Service for younger adults with mental health difficulties. He has also part owned and operated two secure psychiatric hospitals in South Wales.
